**** Phaded (Fresh-Kid.com/Subfix/SmartBar/Badman Press/Dubstep.fm) – Chicago, IL ****

Chicago’s favorite Dub-Slinger, Victor Holloway (aka Phaded) is a front-line veteran of the exploding North American Dubstep Scene. A Computer Science major at UMC, Phaded started out as a DJ at local clubs in his hometown of Columbia, Missouri. Always the audiophile, a journey through his music collection could take you down a path starting at Hip Hop, with stops to pay homage to Jazz & Blues Standards and carrying along to the sounds of Classic Rock and Dub Reggae.

Phaded eventually made his way to Chicago in 2003 and was introduced to Dubstep three years later after he listened to the legendary ‘Dubstep Wars’ podcast hosted by Mary Anne Hobbes on BBC Radio 1. Distinguishing itself from its UK Garage and Grime predecessors, Dubstep tracks differ in style by a heavy emphasis on Sub-Bass and a distinct half-time structure. Although initially adopting the spacious minimal aspects of Dub Reggae, it now incorporates elements of many other genres, such as Hip Hop, Drum & Bass, Techno and Breaks. It was this vast sonic canvas that held so much appeal to Phaded and motivated him to give it exposure wherever he could.

With furthering the Dubstep sound in mind, Phaded took part in the development of two highly influential entities: Dubstep.fm and Dubfix. Launched in May 2007 out of Seattle, Dubstep.fm is the brainchild of DopeLabs, providing a high-quality internet radio stream to showcase the sound. Coinciding with the station’s launch was the first broadcast of Phaded’s ‘The Dented Sessions’. The show has had guest appearances from artists such as DZ, King Cannibal, DopeLabs and Zeno, as well as Chicago mainstays Nameloc, DJ Solo, Chris Widman and Whoa-B. Now approaching its 3rd anniversary, Dubstep.fm has grown from its humble beginnings to an extended community of DJs and volunteers, with a following that spans the globe.

Phaded’s other labor of love is the event that changed the way Chicago and the rest of the Midwest region embraced the sound: Dubfix. Since 2008 these events have provided a platform showcasing both pioneers of the genre and regional talent alike. Now in conjunction with Abstract Science, Dubfix affiliated events continue to bring you the sounds of the most talented performers in the world. It is the hottest Dubstep event Chicago has to offer, as evidenced by a list of featured artists including Skream, Rusko, Caspa, Benga, Mary Anne Hobbes, Distance, Tes La Rok and Excision.

Phaded has long embraced a digital medium both as a producer and performer, eventually embracing the power and flexibility of Ableton Live. His live sets are peppered with exclusive tracks direct from both artists and labels alike, with a long list of affiliations to established heavyweights: Badman Press, Betamorph Recordings, Savory Audio, Shift Records, and Filthy Digital to name a few. With an aggressive mixing style, top notch track selection and a knack for knowing how to work the crowd, the quest to hone his skills in the mix is never ending. It is this drive that defines him- both as a performer and behind-the-scenes player. With support from a cult-like following worldwide, Phaded will be delivering the music you’ve been waiting all your life to hear at Smartbar and beyond for years to come.

**** Ruckus aka Charlie Bro (Furthersound/Betamorph/Brotown/MTZ) - Chicago,IL ****

Hailing from the “Windy City”, Ruckus is no newcomer to the game. DJ'ing for well over ten years, he has had the chance to open up for everyone from Aphrodite to bands like Swedens’ Little Dragon, Johnny Colt (Bassist from the Black Crows) Dara, Danny the Wildchild and many others. From his early mix tapes put out with Rees Urban and Phantom 45 he has shown how to take people through every style of the genres he plays and keep you locked in wanting more. A master DJ at all styles of music, his skills are uncanny. He has been FurtherSound’s “go to” DJ for all types of events. Whether it’s rocking a crowd of hundreds, to his residencies all over Chicago; Ruckus is a force to be reckoned with. He has recently opened up two shows for HULK and Mark Instinct while playing alongside Borgore, Bombaman and RSK, showing no signs of slowing down. Originally a D&B DJ, he has recently caught the Dubstep virus, and you will find that in his alter ego Charlie Bro. Catch him around under the Ruckus alias and you will find him playing Hip-Hop, Drum & Bass, Fidget, Dubstep and straight up party tunes all together in one set. Nothing but energy and turn table tricks come out of all of his sets, so don't be the one to miss him when he rolls through your town. You can find him at virtually every Chicago show, and looks forward to a great 2010. Definitely one to check out on the decks, as he is constantly perfecting his already amazing skills.

<< HELLFIRE MACHINA >> UK/NYC ---(12am)

Rocstar / Brap Dem / Bassism / Dusted Breaks / UK Trends / Wayside Recordings / Filthy Digital / Gamma Audio / BadBwoy Bass / Sound Of Habib / W.E Recordings / Betamorph

Prior to the birth of this project in late 2008. Jody Shires and Tom Williams collectively had over 60 releases under their belts, along with production work for grammy nominated artists, numerous UK top ten remixes, 5 Breakspoll Awards, Best International Dj in the Spanish EDM awards 3 years running and a history in bass culture that is second to none.. The year is now 2010, sonic exploration in the realm of bass fueled riddims is the primary mission for Hellfire Machina. With residencies at New Yorks legendary Club Love, Darkroom in Brooklyn and Psychadelic Radio in SF, it's no wonder these guys are in high demand. Their weekly radio show on dubstepfm has gone from strength to strength and has helped push the awareness of bass music across the globe as well as providing a platform to hear the latest Hellfire creations first, often in early stages as they are delevoped in their now famously named studio Planet Twisted. Ending last year with A and R and project management credits for the Wu Tang 'Enter The Dubstep' album and a string of singles and remixes, they have hit the ground running in 2010. A fresh batch of releases due to hit the streets imminently, a new label project with techno legend Lenny Dee in the works as well as the next chapter in the infamous BASS FUELED MISCHIEF parties in their homebase of NYC. This is the age of the machine with Hellfire firmly at the controls.................

**NASTY RUMOR Presents:**

<< BOMBAMAN >> (dubstep,electronica)
//LOdubs// Fresh-Kid// Badman Press
Toronto, Canada
http://www.myspace.com/m4ttc4rl

Bombaman aka one half of the dubstep duo Loetech with XI from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
As Kid Kameleon put it in his column "Basic Needs" in the December 2007 issue of XLR8R, he makes dark, weird, boundary pushing music for you to meditate to in a club with large speakers. These days he is working on making sure his beats live up to that expectation. Always looking for a new way to mangle sub bass, you can find him pushing out new music every week in the form of 4/4, electro tinged dubstep. With forthcoming releases on Nightshifters, Hot n Heavy and Sub Philo, and releases already available on Lo Dubs, Aufect Recordings, Dim Mak and Big Dada you can be sure there is a Bombaman sound suited to you. Working with XI for the past four years producing music and performing on their radio show Loetech Radio courtesy of SUB.FM, he has traveled across North America including Chicago, San Francisco, Montreal, Vancouver and New York in search for the perfect sound system. You can hear Crookers, Rusko, Diplo, 12th Planet, DZ, Starkey, Stenchman, the Trouble & Bass crew and many other top shelf DJ's playing his music these days, so keep an ear to ground, he might be in your city next.

<< DAVID FIELDS >>(dubstep, electro)
//Nasty Rumor//
St. Louis, MO
http://nastyrumor.info/
http://www.electrolouis.com/

Since picking up his first guitar in 2003, David Fields has been inspired by music of all ranges and genres from classical, to blues, to jazz, to metal. After two years of music theory, Fields began to discover the underground electronic music production scene with a profound interest in the heavy synthesizers and fluid basslines that inspire him today. Then, in 2007, Fields got his first pair of turntables, a year later began his partnership with Electrolouis, and the rest was history! Inspired by such artists as Sub Focus, Excision, Calvertron, Lee Mortimer, and Bassnectar, David Fields has began quickly making a name for himself in the past year by releasing his massive stage energy while dropping the loudest, crunchiest and most wobblely basslines around! Looking forward through 2010 with bookings alongside DJ SOLO, Shanksta, and many of STL's best as well, David Fields is sure to be a commonly heard name in STL's underground music scene! Expect HIGH energy on stage as well as seemless loops and clean mixes from bassline to bassline!

If there is a spare minute in Alex B’s life, it is spent in the studio working on music. Although he is classically trained on violin and an array of other instruments, he is best known as the outstanding bass player and guiding force behind Pnuma Trio, the live electronic band that in just one year played over 220 shows all around the world after breaking onto the scene to immediate acclaim and success. As a solo artist, his use of a dizzying mixture of analog hardware and newer digital technology give him a signature sound that is difficult to pin down to just one (or two or three) genres. Layers and layers of synthesizer, bass and enticing effects are laid over broken hip-hop and down-tempo inspired beats to create rich textures with a jazz undercurrent.

Lazer Sword is the duo of San Francisco-based LOW LIMIT and LANDO KAL. “We like to make music that sounds like your favorite top 40 rap shit chopped up into a tornado filled with razor blades and molasses, or maybe like Frank Zappa rocking the home made Lil John tank-top at the rooftop party!”

Joining them will be the STL Dubstep duo Mohawk vs. Heezy, sure to kick off the night in style with a DJ Battle set at 9pm.
